Storytelling and language

At Kidslingo we love the magical world of storytelling. Your session will be a combination of an engaging story in French or Spanish that the children will actively join in with, accompanied by songs and games. We will use props to bring the story to life and truly engage your little ones in language learning.

Kidslingo provides a quality enrichment activity that offers the children in your setting a wide range of benefits and supports the early years curriculum. Our multi-award-winning classes combine music, movement, drama and actions with learning French or Spanish and give children the opportunity to experience a rich language environment.

Via the activities and learning process, the children develop their confidence and social skills in expressing themselves and communicating in a range of situations.

Learning a language enhances children’s cultural capital, giving them the best possible start to their early education and supporting their roles as effective global citizens.

Through talking, singing songs, making silly noises and demonstrating how we are feeling, we strengthen the children’s facial muscles thus supporting language development of English as well as the new language.

Early childhood is the most rapid period of development in a human life and the key period to start language learning. It is the optimum time to stimulate children into reaching their fullest potential. Extensive research shows the more mental stimulation a child gets between the age of two to four, the more developed the parts of their brains dedicated to language and cognition will be in the decades ahead.

Top tips for fun and effective language learning

Language learning should fuel curiosity and foster creativity. The best way to achieve this is to make

learning fun! Very simply – when little ones enjoy and love what they do, it becomes a natural, spontaneous and organic activity. It is vital to use the right tools and activities to capture imaginations and inspire them to love languages. Language learning shouldn’t be viewed as separate from everyday play – it can be seamlessly integrated into activities in a what we call ‘stealth learning’ at Kidslingo – children learn without even realising they are doing so.

Simple activities to stimulate language development in your setting:

  • Using the language whilst counting as you go up the stairs
  • Pointing out different colours during everyday play activities
  • Discussing vocabulary on a park excursion
  • Listening to songs (see here for Kidslingo’s music downloads)
